Notes/Observations about the Olympus 5050 in the PT-015 Housing:
- I
used the custom mode feature of the camera (i.e. My Settings
/ My Mode) and preset for two modes. First mode was a macro
mode, Aperture Priority, f8.0, ASA100, internal strobe on, 50mm
zoom. Second mode was standard mode, Aperture Priority, f5.6,
ASA100, internal strobe on, 35mm (zoomed all the way out).
The "My" settings make it easy to switch between modes
and then turn off strobe when desired, but I'm not convinced
Aperture Priority is the way to go - problem is that in low
light conditions, when I want the strobe to freeze the subject
(and any camera motion I may have), my shutter speed drops so
much that I get motion blur. Will need to try full manual (which
should also help reduce the cyan background lighting). Anyone
know what the fastest shutter speed is which still allows for
the on-board strobe to sync?
- The
internal strobe on the camera is good for only about 12-18 inches
distance. Slave strobe detector for my Ikelite DS-125 has been
ordered :-)
- The
5050 seems to oversharpen. I'm guessing a -1 sharpen setting
may be in order.
- More
experimentation in order, but results are a lot more pleasing
than with my housed Sony F707. Anyone want to buy an Ikelite
F707 housing?
